Christmas pantomime advert stays for the summer!

Blackpool Flexity 010 received advertising vinyls for the Grand Theatre’s production of Cinderella, starring ex-Emmerdale actor Danny Miller alongside various other minor celebrities. As this was a show for the festive season, this was naturally expected to be a short-lived advert; however, the adverts remain in place on the side of car 010 some four months after the show ended!

Thankfully, the pantomine is only advertised on one side of 010 as its adverts are different on each side, but this doesn’t change the fact that many tourists are now seeing an advert for a show which ended back in January. This fact has been repeatedly mentioned in the Fylde Tramway News, but the advert is still being paraded along the tramway for all to see.  It is sincerely hoped that 010 will receive new adverts soon, perhaps for this summer’s shows at the Grand Theatre. If this does not happen, hopefully the expired pantomime adverts will be removed as soon as possible, as it would be very poor practice if the show continues to be advertised on the tram during the school summer holidays.

010‘s adverts are a reminder of past times when summer season show adverts were often retained for several months after expiry, with Centenary car 647 (now preserved in the North East) suffering this indignity several times during the early nineties, when it carried a succession of different liveries advertising various shows at The Opera House.

Highlighted by glorious sunshine, 010 shows off its colourful adverts for Cinderalla at the Grand Theatre, as it passes through North Pier during the recent late May Bank Holiday weekend. (Photo by Andrew Waddington)

Perhaps midnight comes later when you ride by Flexity instead of a Pumpkin Coach.

The adverts on the widened Balloon cars are all expired as well so this is not the first tram to run in an expired advert. Although I agree it is strange to see an expired advert for a Christmas show in June!

Ash – whilst your statement is completely true, there’s some difference between a tram advertising a shopping centre or a hotel that still exists, as opposed to a show that ended over 4 months ago! Hence the comments that the advert on 010 really ought to be removed as soon as possible.

flexity 010 out today minus adverts

I’m just saying that many trams have run in expired advert liveries before. At least the advertisers on the widened Balloon cars are getting their adverts shown for free!

I have just seen 010 in Fleetwood with the Cinderella advert removed – finally!
