In Pictures: Snow in Manchester

2025 has got off to a bit of a chaotic start with wind, rain and snow hitting various different areas of the UK. Seaton Tramway look ahead to 2025

Seaton Tramway’s 2024 season has now come to a close (last trams ran Sunday 5th January 2025) and now they are starting to look ahead to a packed 2025 season of events. 2025 will see the tramway celebrate its 55th anniversary whilst they will also be taking part in the nationwide Railway 200 events.

East Anglia Transport Museum the big winner in Tram of the Year 2024!

The East Anglia Transport Museum in Carlton Colville can celebrate after they walked away with three of the categories at the British Trams Online Tram of the Year 2024! They received the most votes from the public in all three categories they were nominated for, with the only categories they didn’t come out on top being the modern tram ones! Meanwhile, there was also cause for celebration for the Blackpool Tramway and Manchester Metrolink as they received the most votes in the remaining categories.

In Pictures: FTS Christmas Tour – with a difference!

When the announcement was made that Blackpool Heritage Tram Tours were suspending operations immediately it meant that pre-arranged bookings either had to be cancelled or amended. For the Fylde Tramway Society that included their annual Christmas tour but not to be put off they still managed to work alongside both Blackpool Transport and the Fylde Transport Trust to bring together a day of events which would include bus and tram.

NET ticket prices to increase from 6th January 2025

The cost of tickets on Nottingham Express Transit will go up from Monday 6th January 2025 as part of the network’s regular fares review. The increases are said to be in line with inflation and are as a result of growing costs the network faces on a day to day basis. This is the second increase in fares in just over six months with the previous review being in June 2024.

In Pictures: Trams get set to take a rest at Beamish

As we reported last month, the tramway at Beamish is set to take a break for the first few months of 2025 to allow maintenance – of both the infrastructure and tramcars – to take place. But before they take a well deserved rest they remain operating up to Sunday 5th January 2025 (subject to weather and yet more weather warnings!). The Tyne and Wear Metro doesn’t look like it can catch a break at the moment. No sooner had  full service resumed through Gateshead after repairs to the road flyover then the network was hit by not one, but two issues which have impacted services once again.

In Pictures: Track continues to go down on Black Country line

If all goes according to the current plan (and let’s be honest we’ve been here before where we’ve expected things to open when they haven’t!) this time next year the West Midlands Metro network will have expanded with phase one of what is now known as the Black Country line carrying passengers between Wednesbury and Dudley. If that is to be the case the next few months look set to be busy with construction work and in this latest update we see some more progress.
