South Yorkshire Supertram seems not to be able to catch a break at the moment; we have already seen the discovery of a well at Birley Lane causing major disruption and now at Hillsborough Corner the failure of a set of traffic lights has led to a temporary set being installed.
The traffic lights started to have issues in mid-September and after initial investigations it was decided to put temporary lights in whilst a more permanent solution was found. Unfortunately, whereas as the permanent lights give some priority to trams the temporary lights offer none.
This has meant there have been delays to service – particularly on the Blue route to and from Malin Bridge. It has been taking up to 10 minutes to travel between Hillsborough and Malin Bridge and in some extreme cases in order to catch time up some services are being turned at Hillsborough.
Its not known when the problem may be resolved.
101 has left Hillsborough and now waits for the lights to change.
116 is caught behind a car at Hillsborough and now waits for the lights to go green so it can continue on its way to Middlewood.
107 did manage to get down and back to Malin Bridge and now comes over to Hillsborough. 105 waits its turn. (Photographs x3 by Stuart Cooke, 23rd September 2026)
