Volk’s Electric Railway to celebrate 10’s centenary

Tonight (Saturday 19th September) will be the last evening running of the Volk’s Electric Railway for 2026 and there is also set to be a celebration of the 100th anniversary of car 10 to kick the evening service off.

10 is actually the youngest of the purpose built cars for the Volk’s Electric Railway with it having been built in 1926, some 16 years after car 9 (the original!) had been built. It is one of three cars which went to Alan Keef Ltd in 2016 for restoration and is now regularly in service along the line – either on its own or as a pair with car 6.

The evening will kick-off at 1800 when there will be a short celebration of car 10 after which the volunteers from the Volk’s Electric Railway Association will take over operation of the railway until 2100.

This will include the use of illuminated trains and is the last VERA takeover of the year which sees them run trains after the normal end of service. All this will be weather dependent.
