The call for evidence of the Government’s Mass Transit Taskforce is now open. The Taskforce was announced last month and the call to evidence s inviting views on how to tackle the barriers to the quick and efficient delivery of mass transit systems across the UK.
The Taskforce will be considering light rail, very light rail, tram, tram-train, metro-style systems, and bus rapid transit during its assessment. It aims to assess the economic, spatial and social benefits of integrated mass transit, identify the challenges that impede the development and delivery of mass transit systems, and make recommendations to central and local government on how best to overcome them.
Bridget Rosewell CBE is the Chair of the Taskforce, she said: “The Taskforce will produce clear recommendations, informed by evidence, analysis and expert advice, on how the benefits of mass transit can be appropriately realised for more people and places and how mass transit projects can be delivered with greater speed, efficiency and cost effectiveness whilst maintaining excellent standards for safety, accessibility and passenger experience.
“The call for evidence is an invitation for you – the transport industry – to shape a successful future for mass transit.”
The Taskforce will also include Jason Price, Director of the Urban Transit Group, Richael de Cani, Chief Officer for Global Business and Markets at Arup, and David Milner, Managing Director of Create Streets. They will also be supported by a soon to be announced expert panel.
The call for evidence closes on 31st August 2026 with submissions able to be made at https://www.urbantransportgroup.org/mass-transit-taskforce-evidence
