A section of the Nottingham Express Transit network will be closed for a week later this month with rail replacement works due to take place at Nottingham Trent University. Between Sunday 24th and Sunday 31st May (inclusive) there will be no trams running between The Forest and Old Market Square whilst the work takes place.
The work will take place in two sections and is due to be a 24 hour operation. NET have warned local residents and businesses that there will be some noisy work at times, but where possible this will take place during the day.
Both sections of work will be on Goldsmith Street with the first section being at the junction with Shakespeare Street from 24th to 27th May, and then from 28th to 31st May it will be close to the junction of Chaucer Street.
Throughout the week long closure trams will continue to run:
- Phoenix Park/Hucknall to The Forest
- Clifton South/Toton Lane to Old Market Square
A reduced frequency timetable will be running with trams every 10 minutes between 0700 and 2100 from Tuesday 26th until Saturday 30th May, and 0700-1900 on Sunday 24th, Monday 25th and Sunday 31st May. At all other times trams will run every 15 minutes. There will be no early morning departures between 0500 and 0600, with first trams from the depot not being until 0600.
A replacement bus service will operate between The Forest and Old Market Square at the same frequency as the tram service.
Joanne Smedley, Head of Service Delivery at NET, said: “Ongoing maintenance work is part of our regular operations here at NET, helping us to ensure that our network can remain as safe and reliable as possible for the thousands of people that use it. Minimising disruption is key, and with our rail replacement bus service, we hope to reduce the impact on travellers who often use the stops that will be closed during this time.
“We’d like to thank our customers and the wider public for their cooperation as we complete this essential maintenance work to keep our trams running safely.”
A normal tram service is due to resume from Monday 1st June 2026.
