Blackpool & Fleetwood 40 and Sheffield 74 the latest to enter service at Crich

Blackpool & Fleetwood Box 40 and Sheffield 74 are the latest trams to have entered service at the National Tramway Museum – the eighth and ninth passenger cars to have been used so far in 2026.

Box 40 was used for the first time on Saturday 28th March 2026 when it was part of the usual three-car service. It has since been used on a couple of other occasions as well.

As with the other seven trams which have been used in 2026, 40 did see use last year. However, it was only a late season entry having been re-commissioned through the workshops in time to enter service at Tram Weekend in the September of last year.

Sheffield 74 then followed into service a week later on Saturday 4th April 2026, once again as part of a three-car service. It was then in service again on Easter Sunday, 5th April 2026, which was the first five-car service of the season. The other tram used on Easter Sunday were Glasgow 22, Blackpool Standard 40, Blackpool 167 and Leeds 399.

The workshop team also remain busy commissioning other trams for use, with more examples of the fleet likely to start to enter service as the season progresses.
