“Around the World in Trams” now moves on for the next month and this time we return to Amsterdam.
As well as being part of “Around the World in Trams” series these photos could also be “Picture in Time” as we’re going back to the early 1980s to view trams operating in Amsterdam at that time.
This first photo depicts 784 as it works a route 5 service which is running to Centraal Station. Route 5 started operation on 20th December 1978 and at the time of this photo ran between Centraal Station and Zuid station; it has since seen many changes and does still run in 2026 between Westergasfabriek and Stadshart.
As for the tram this is a LHB 9G which was still pretty new when seen in 1980 as it had only been introduced into service during August 1979. It would serviceable until September 2015, and then was scrapped in June 2016.
