In Pictures: Sheffield Station the terminus over May Day Bank Holiday

A few days ago we saw the trackworks taking place at Gleadless Townend on the South Yorkshire Supertram system over the May Day Bank Holiday weekend. As a result of these works there were service changes in place with no trams running any further than Sheffield Station in the direction of Halfway or Herdings Park. This meant Sheffield Station was a temporary terminus and in these photos Stuart Cooke shows us the arrangements for trams turning there.

Trams from Malin Bridge (the Purple route was suspended so there were no workings from Cathedral to deal with) ran into the usual Halfway bound platform at Sheffield Station where they then terminated. 121 shows us that as it waits at the stop with destination display already changed for its return.

The points to the city side of the stop were then manually changed.

The tram then departs the stop, uses the crossover and regains the correct track to head back to Malin Bridge. 121 again demonstrates that move for us. (All Photographs by Stuart Cooke, 4th May 2025)
