We return to Europe for our next set of photos in “Around the World in Trams” as during November we will be featuring images taken in Budapest.
As with so many European cities the Hungarian capital city of Budapest has a long association with trams with the first lines opening in 1866. They were horse cars which were joined by both steam trams and electric trams in 1887. Steam trams came to an end in 1900 with the last horse trams operating in 1928, leaving electric trams as the only form of power in the city. The network operates as standard gauge and features 35 individual lines with 610 trams in the fleet.
In this weeks photo we see 1307 in service on route 2 which runs between Jaszai Mari ter and Kozvagohid. 1307 was built in 1967 and was designated as a Ganz CSMG2. Although it was still part of the running fleet when this photo was taken in 2008 it was to be withdrawn in 2016 and then scrapped three years later.
