There are currently probably double the reasons to go the Tyne and Wear Metro at the moment – on the one-hand you want to see the new trains which are gradually entering service and then on the other you know that the old Metrocars are starting to be withdrawn (and in some cases scrapped). In this latest “Out and About” we take a trip to northeast England to see one of the new trains.

This photo was taken at Pelaw and shows 555 027 when being used on test bound for South Shields. This particular train – built as they are all being in Switzerland by Stadler – arrived on the Tyne and Wear Metro on 25th October 2024 and after initial testing became the seventh to enter service on 26th March 2025. This image was taken on 1st May 2025. (Photograph by Trevor Hall, 1st May 2025)
