Man charged after noxious substance released on Metrolink

A 31 year old man from Manchester has appeared in court charged with four counts of administering noxious substances with intent and three counts of causing a public nuisance following incidents on board trams in Manchester.

Ghalid Saeed appeared in court on Tuesday 25th March after reports of several similar incidents. They took place on board trams on both Thursday 20th and Saturday 22nd March and saw a man allegedly release the substances whilst wearing a gas mask.

Detective Chief Inspector Paddy Connell, from the Greater Manchester Police, said: “I hope that these charges reassure the public that we take incidents of this nature extremely seriously, and will utilise all the appropriate resources to investigate. While a man has been charged and we believe that there is no wider risk, we continue to ask anyone who believes they have witnessed anything suspicious to get in touch with our officers as we continue our work.”
