In Pictures: 399 206 out on driver training

It has now been almost 10 years since the last of the seven Stadler Citylink tram-trains were delivered to Sheffield for use on the South Yorkshire Supertram network. Initially it was planned that four would be made available for use as tram-trains to Rotherham Parkgate with the other three adding capacity to the conventional tram network. However, it hasn’t quite ended up like that with several of the vehicles currently seemingly out of service and only two being available (nominally) for use on the conventional network.

And it seems to be a fairly rare occurrence that one of the Citylinks are used on the conventional network (especially now with the reduced requirement for vehicles with the Blue route only working from Malin Bridge to Herdings Park).

399 206 was used in service at the end of July when there was an increase service for the Tramlines festival but its passenger use outside of that has been incredibly rare. It did, however, escape the depot at the start of October 2026 when it was out on driver training.

The other Citylink which it is understood is set-up for the conventional network is 399 207 but just when it was last used isn’t record. The last photo we featured of it was back in 2024!
