Seaton Tramway joins Railway 200 celebrations with New Year Whistle event

The Seaton Tramway have announced that they will be participating in the nationwide New Year Whistle Up event on 1st January 2025. This is the starting event of the Railway 200 events which is a year long commemoration of the historic milestone achieved by George Stephenson’s Locomotion no. 1 and the opening of the Stockton and Darlington Railway in 1825.

The New Year Whistle Up Event, led by the Heritage Railway Association, will see heritage railways, museums, and enthusiasts across the UK come together to sound whistles, bells, and horns at 1200 to officially launch the bicentennial year.

Seaton Tramway will join in with their trams ringing their distinctive bells and whistles, offering a unique twist to the event. Visitors will be able to experience this historic moment firsthand with the tramway open to the public on this day, running a special service between Seaton and Colyton to launch another year of operation.

At 1200 trams will be ringing their bells at both Seaton and Colyton stations and anywhere else they may happen to be! A service will then continue for the rest of the day.

This is just the start of a year of events and Seaton Tramway are also planning to deliver more themed events and experiences.

For Seaton Tramway, participating in Railway 200 aligns perfectly with their mission to preserve and celebrate historic transport.
