In Pictures: Supertram engineering works continue

The October half-term engineering works on South Yorkshire Supertram have been continuing over the past few days with work taking place close to Shalesmoor and Hillsborough tram stops. Photos from Stuart Cooke.

The works will see more track and associated infrastructure replaced and are part of the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority’s investment into maintaining and improving the Supertram network. They have committed £110 million towards the network by 2027 and this work is just the latest set of planned works in 2026 which has already seen the delta junction fully replaced over the summer.

25th October – the second day of the work – and we’re at Hillsborough where new track is being laid through the stop on the outbound track towards Middlewood.

Onto 26th October and more progress at Hillsborough with the new track almost ready for installation.

This is Shalesmoor where some serious welding is taking place on the track.

This is now 27th October where we see even more progress taking place at Hillsborough. The track on the crossover is now down into its grooves.
