As well as the main London Transport Museum in Covent Garden, there is also a museum store located at Acton which contains many more exhibits which there just isn’t room for at the museum. The store is open on select dates for special Open Days (as well as guided tours), one of which took place over the weekend of 27th and 27th April 2023.
The store has many exhibits both large and small, from as big as vehicles to posters and other small items. From a tram interest it currently houses two tramcars which have been preserved and did used to be on display at Covent Garden but with no space there for them any more can now be seen at Acton.
These are Feltham 355 (one of only two Feltham trams to survive in the UK, and the only production example to do so) and E/1 1025.
Feltham 355 was built in 1931 and was part of the Metropolitan Electric Tramways fleet until it became part of London Transport (renumbered 2099). It was one of the trams sold to Leeds in 1949 with final withdrawal coming in 1959.
E/1 1025 was new in 1910 for London County Council Tramways and was one of 1,050 similar trams which were built by Hurst Nelson. The tram was finally withdrawn in 1952 and has been preserved in its final condition.
