Delays for NET after tram derails following collision

There was significant disruption for services on the Nottingham Express Transit system on Thursday 19th September after a tram was derailed after being hit by a lorry. The collision happened at 1045 and services weren’t able to resume until just before 1500.

The tram which was struck by the lorry was Citadis 223 which was travelling along Noel Street between the Noel Street and Beaconsfield Street stops on the way to Wilkinson Street. It was at the junction with Berridge Street which is a non-light controlled junction which heads directly across the single track tramway here.

Although social media photos show that the tram seemed to suffer significant damage, Andrew Conroy, who is Tramlink Nottingham Chief Executive, has suggested that it is mainly superficial and the tram may be back in service within a month. He also confirmed that there were no injuries on board the tram and that the track was not damaged.

Following the incident no trams were running between The Forest and Wilkinson Street with services from Hucknall and Phoenix Park turning at Wilkinson Street and those from Toton Lane and Clifton terminating at The Forest. There was ticket acceptance on local bus services.
