In Pictures: Supertram Blue route goes to Herdings Park

We saw earlier this week in an article how Blue route trams on the South Yorkshire Supertram network are currently working through to Herdings Park with trackworks taking place beyond Gleadless Townend preventing them from getting to Halfway as they usually do. In this pictorial article we return to Sheffield and feature another selection of images – and scroll down to the bottom for a link to a video of the unusual service too. Steven Hughes is the photographer.

The improvement works are seeing rail replaced at White Lane, Crystal Peaks and Waterthorpe. The line closure started on Saturday 20th July and will continue until Friday 2nd August and throughout this period no trams will run to Halfway. The following day (Saturday 3rd August) sees the next set of works start and these will be at Hollinsend and Herdings Park with the Blue route split and no Purple route services running (confirmation of revised services to come in another article).

118 heads down to Fitzalan Square from Castle Square with a Blue route service going through to Herdings Park. The tram retains its Pretty Little Thing advert.

Also working on the Blue route on this day was 116 and its seen here it was its unusual Herdings Park destination.

115 at Herdings Park with the destination display having changed for its return trip to Malin Bridge.

118 departs from Herdings Park with a return trip to Malin Bridge. This is a single line section of track.

Another tram approaches Herdings Park. This is 116 which has the vinyls in place promoting the Park and Ride sites across the region. (All Photographs by Steven Hughes, 27th July 2024)
