Plans approved for new stop on Tram-Train line

Supertram services on the Tram-Train route to Rotherham Parkgate will soon have another stop to call at following the approval of plans to construct one at Magna Science Adventure Centre.

The proposal for the stop has been an aspiration for a while and will see two staggered platforms built either side of the tracks and linked by a footbridge. They will be standard Supertram height plattforms. There will also be lighting, CCTV, shelters and passenger information.

The plans to build the stop are estimated to cost £6.6 million which is due to come from Sheffield City Region’s £166 million Transforming Cities Fund.

Its hoped that as well as providing access to Magna it will help aid regeneration in the Templeborough area. The planning application said that over 200,000 journeys could be made each year on the Tram-Train service.

No date is given for the start of construction or indeed when it may open (the page on the Travel South Yorkshire states spring 2024 but as work hasn’t started yet this isn’t going to happen).
