TfGM appeal for information after spate of ticket machine thefts

Transport for Greater Manchester have released CCTV images after a spate of thefts from Metrolink ticket machines. In the period since January thieves have either broken into or attempted to break into six ticket machines on the Eccles, Airport and Ashton lines with the stops at Salford Quays, Exchange Quay, Sale Water Park, Ashton Moss, Clayton Hall and Martinscroft targeted.

Another year starts at Crich

Following hot on the heels of the Manx Electric Railway the latest heritage tramway to start their 2018 season is the Crich Tramway Village with the museum opening for the first time on Saturday 17th March. Unfortunately this will only short lived as the latest batch of snow to hit the UK meant that the Museum was then closed on Sunday 18th March.

MER welcomes in 2018

In Pictures: Arena rebranding completed

Back in December we reported about the rebranding of the Supertram stop at Arena – this has now been fully completed both at the stop and on board trams. New Luas trams withdrawn from service

The new 55 metre long Luas Citadis trams have been withdrawn from service owing to a “system fault”. So far only two of the seven trams have entered passenger service with their use confined to the morning peak to help increase capacity but these trams have also been temporarily withdrawn.

Liverpool tram to honour Sir Ken Dodd?

The Merseyside Tramway Preservation Society have been seeking input on an idea recently put forward that Liverpool 762 be named after the late Sir Ken Dodd. As well as being a comedy legend, Ken Dodd was also a local boy who had been an honoury ambassador of the Birkenhead heritage tramway, having appeared on a BBC documentary programme entitled ‘The Golden Age of Trams’ a few years ago riding on 762.

NET’s popularity with passengers remains high

A new report has shown that the popularity of Nottingham Express Transit remains high with 98% saying they would recommend the network to friends and family. The survey was conducted by Tramlink Nottingham and took place between 12th May and 16th June 2017 (1,530 passengers completed the survey) with 94% of those questioned also saying they were satisfied with the service.

The Hulk stops the Blackpool Tramway!

As bizarre tram based stories go this one probably tops the list! The Incredible Hulk was spotted in Blackpool on Thursday 15th March stopping Blackpool & Fleetwood Box 40 in its tracks! Of course it wasn’t as it may seem from the photos as it was just a publicity stunt in connection with Madam Tussauds new Marvel Superheroes area which is adding a £1 million 5,501 square foot addition to the attraction on Blackpool Prom.

In Pictures: Midland Metro Birmingham Westside extension construction

Good progress made in raising funds for bus for Crich

£12,000 has already been raised by the Tramway Museum Society towards their £65,000 target to be able to purchase the 1913 built Barnsley & District motorbus. As we reported previously this bus – numbered 5 – has been offered to the museum at cut price by Mike Sutcliffe and will add a vital part of the story of trams to the collection.
