In Pictures: Manx Electric Railway and Snaefell Mountain Railway end another season

And just like that another main operating season on the Manx Electric Railway and Snaefell Mountain Railway comes to an end. To celebrate the conclusion of another year of operation, the final weekend of 1st and 2nd November 2025 saw an End of Season Gala and for the Manx Electric Railway that saw a celebration of 50 years since the end of mail traffic on the line.

To help with the celebrations all three mail vans (4, 11 and 16) were coupled to regular service trams whilst Royal Trailer 59 was also used (and was part of the final service of the season from Ramsey to Derby Castle).

Over the course of the final weekend, Saturday 1st November saw Tunnel Car 9 joined by Winter Saloons 19, 21 and 22 whilst Sunday 2nd November saw the same three Winter Saloons out. 19 and Royal Trailer 59 operated the last trip of the year.

Meanwhile, for the Snaefell Mountain Railway it was 2 which was ran the very last trip for 2025.

The Manx Electric Railway will start its 2026 season on 17th March. But if you can’t wait until then there are a number of special trips (some are for special ticket holders only):

22nd and 23rd November – Laxey Village Christmas Market Trams

6th, 7th, 13th, 20th, 21st December – Frozen at the Glen (Dhoon Glen)

13th, 14th, 20th, 21st December – Tinsel Trams to Groudle Glen Railway

Van 16 was one of three mail vans coupled to service cars during the course of the final day of the season. Winter Saloon 21 is provided the power with the pair seen at Laxey.

Winter Saloon 22 works solo with a service from Ramsey to Derby Castle.

Another shot of 22 as it heads away from us.

Royal Trailer 59 made a welcome appearance on the last day of the season when it was coupled to Winter Saloon 19 for the last round trip. This is Laxey with the two heading north to Ramsey.

Passengers board 19 and 59 at Ramsey for the final service tram of 2025.

The Snaefell Mountain Railway marked the end of the season with special headboards carried by the trams. Such as that seen on 1 here at Laxey. (All Photographs courtesy of Manx Electric Railway Online)
