Yet another of Blackpool’s brand new Flexity2 trams has received side panel advertisements. Following on from the earlier designs for Redrow Homes, on one side only of car 011, and the Pleasure Beach Ice Arena on 007, comes the latest contract for the Big Blue Hotel, applied to car 005.
This is the latest of many advertising deals on trams connected with the famous Pleasure Beach although the hotel at the edge of the theme park has never been promoted on a tramcar before. It duly joins other prominent Blackpool hotels such as the Metropole, Viking, Lydene and Tiffany’s in being advertised on a tram – although surprisingly in view of its name, this advert features no trace of the colour blue! Instead, the roof side posters are black and gold (similar to sister car 006) whilst the lower side posters on the centre section of 005 feature an unusual brown colour.
It seems that external advertising is now very much a feature of the Flexities and further designs will presumably follow on the class as the season progresses. Despite some initial criticims, the style of adverts used, which are the same on all three units treated so far, do suit the lines of a Flexity quite well and will undoubtedly provide some useful extra revenue for Blackpool Transport.
