Supertram to offer free travel for the Armed Forces for Remembrance Day

Serving members of the Armed Forces and veterans will be able to travel for free on board South Yorkshire Supertram to mark Remembrance Day again this year. The offer will be in place for both Remembrance Sunday on 8th November and Armistice Day on 11th November.

The initiative is being supported not only by South Yorkshire Supertram but also bus operators Stagecoach and First Bus in the region. It is also valid on the Supertram replacement bus service BL1 between Gleadless Townend and Halfway.

Free travel is available to serving Armed Forces personnel in uniform or with valid military ID, veterans displaying a Veterans’ Badge, Veterans’ ID Card or military medals, and cadets in uniform.

Oliver Coppard, South Yorkshire Mayor, said: “As we come together across South Yorkshire to mark Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day, it’s right that we take time to honour the service and sacrifice of our veterans and armed forces. We’re offering free travel on Supertram, alongside some of our bus operators, so veterans and serving personnel attending commemorative events can do so without worrying about the cost of getting there. It’s a small but meaningful way of saying thank you for everything they have done, and continue to do, in service of our country”

Any eligible passengers will just need to show identification to the tram conductor or bus driver to qualify for their free travel.

Supertram will also be displaying poppies on both ends of trams as a mark of respect.
