These pictures all come from the camera of Andrew Spencer, who paid a visit to the museum on 10th June.

Tram-trains for Wolverhampton to Walsall?

Another extension to Midland Metro could be on the cards with Centro investigating whether the Walsall-Wolverhampton rail line could be converted to allow tram-trains to operate. The direct service on this line last ran in 2008 but was axed because there were not enough passengers to make it a viable service and rail bosses have resisted all calls to reinstate it as they don’t believe this situation has changed. But now with the proposed Wolverhampton city centre extension being developed which would serve the railway station the chance could well be taken to link this with the railway line to Walsall.

Mitcham pedestrian crossing reopens

A pedestrian crossing across the Tramlink tracks at Mitcham Junction has been reopened after a year following a local campaign to see it reinstated. The crossing – which is a public right of way – was blocked off during the double tracking works and when these were completed it was not reopened. Transport for London’s policy was to try and minimise the number of crossing points on the tramway but after a year of campaigning by locals they have agreed to reopen this particular crossing.

Flexity 007 isn’t so lucky after all!

Despite the number 7 supposedly being associated with good luck, the reverse seems to be true of Blackpool Flexity 007 which has recently been involved in an accident with a motor car. This isn’t the first time that this particular tram has been in the wars – it was the only one of the Flexity2 class to be damaged en route to Blackpool, and has also failed in service a couple of times in recent weeks.

In Pictures: The Conwy Valley Railway Museum tramway

If asked to name the various operating tramways to be found in the UK, few people would think to mention the Conwy Valley Railway Museum in North Wales. Metrolink T68 1014 latest to be withdrawn

There are now more T68/T68As withdrawn than there are in service in Manchester following the withdrawal of 1014. 1014 has actually been out of service for a couple of weeks with a traction fault but has now been officially withdrawn from service, becoming the unlucky thirteenth T68 to be taken out of use and the seventeenth of the combined T68/T68A fleet. With just 15 remaining available for service this now means there are more stored at depots than running in service.
