Northumbria Police and Crime Commissioner visits the Metro

Susan Dungworth, the new Northumbria Police and Crime Commissioner, has taken a trip on the Tyne and Wear Metro to see the police and security measures in place on the system. She travelled with police officers from the Northumbria Force and the Metro security team on the evening of Saturday 17th August before finishing off at the Metro Control Room.

In Pictures: Busy summer continues at Beamish

They’ve been described as the hardest working heritage trams in the UK and the operating fleet at Beamish is once again proving that with the museum continuing to be very busy with visitors (long queues to get in, announcements that the car park is full being regular occurrences). Whilst the trams do now have support from buses, as the museum continues to evolve, they are still running on all opening days on both the clockwise and anti clockwise circuits. In Pictures: Supertram improvement works carry on

The major improvement work currently taking place on South Yorkshire Supertram – a total of £5 million has been invested by he South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority  since they took control of the network again in March 2024 – is moving along Middlewood Road with the latest location of works being at Leppings Lane tramstop. Piccadilly Gardens next location for Metrolink engineering works

The summer of Manchester Metrolink improvement works will continue for three weeks from Tuesday 27th August. The next location for works to take place will be at Piccadilly Gardens meaning no trams will be able to run from there to St Peter’s Square.

UK Light Rail Summit announces packed programme of speakers

In Pictures: Bluebird out on test at Crich

The comprehensive restoration of London County Council 1 – known as Bluebird – is coming to a conclusion with its return to full passenger service hoped to be within the next month or so. As part of its continued commissioning it was allowed out of the depot confines during museum opening hours for a test run on Saturday 17th August, which also happened to coincide with day one of the Crich Tramway Village’s Model Tramway Exhibition.

Blackpool Heritage Tram Tours August Bank Holiday weekend timetable released

In Pictures: Yellow goes to Malin Bridge

As we’ve already seen on these pages the final stage of South Yorkshire Supertram improvement works this summer is now underway with no trams able to run between Hillsborough and Middlewood. This has led the Yellow route to be being diverted along Holme Lane to Malin Bridge, giving that short section of line double the number of trams than it usually sees. Stuart Cooke provides images of some of those workings in this article.

For those of you who have visited the East Anglia Transport Museum you will probably have seen Lowestoft 14 at the back of the main depot where its restoration to operating condition has been happening for many years. It’s a tram which rarely escapes from the confines of the depot but Thursday 15th July saw that change as it was shunted – even making it as far as Chapel Road terminus.

Cano Water ad part of new partnership with TfGM

South Shields Interchange sees defibrillator installed
