In Pictures: Stagecoach Supertram rail replacement works

Further progress has been made on the major rail replacement works taking place on Stagecoach Supertram which will be affecting services until mid-September on both the Blue and Yellow routes. The latest worksite is further up West Street and has seen the top of West Street and Glossop Road being closed to all traffic in both directions. It is understood that work is currently four days ahead of schedule.

In this view the old track has been removed and preparations are made for the installation of the new track.

Tunnels were installed over the track to allow work to continue regardless of the weather: in the event in stayed dry anyway. (Both Photos: Stuart Cooke, 2nd August)

  1. Andy says:

Can anyone explain the procedure for removing embedded rail?

Also, the replacement rail in the top photo, will it be pre-bent to fit in the existing trough?

I am familiar with embedded rail being laid, but, curious about how it is removed.

    Cheers.
