What is about fires in buildings causing disruption for trams systems in the UK at the moment? After the major blazes in Fleetwood and Edinburgh which saw sections of tramways closed weeks and months, another fire in Nottingham City Centre led to more disruption, although fortunately this time it would only see disruption for less than a day.
The fire started shortly after 2200 on Monday 5th October 2026 in a building on Market Street – which trams run along between Old Market Square and Royal Centre – and led to the tramway overhead having been isolated to allow emergency services to tackle the blaze.
This meant no trams were able to run between Nottingham Station and The Forest. A limited service did run between Nottingham Station and Toton Lane/Clifton South before a full service started to resume from mid-afternoon on Tuesday 6th October.
Two boys aged 12 and 14 were arrested on suspicion of arson.
