‘Buy Before You Board’ has now fully introduced on the West Midlands Metro with anyone found without a valid ticket or pass on the trams now facing a £100 penalty fare.
The full enforcement comes a few weeks since conductors were removed from trams (Sunday 13th September was the date that happened). Since that date the Revenue Officers were assisting passengers without tickets (often by escorting them off the tram to the nearest ticket machine to purchase a ticket).
Michael Reading-Skilton, Metro’s Head of Commercial and Customer Experience, said: “Over the past few weeks, our recently deployed team of Revenue Officers have been offering support and advice to customers while inspecting tickets and passes.
“This educational approach has helped people get used to the system, but customers now expect us to take action when someone is found travelling without a ticket.
“Customers can also continue to use Swift cards, including Swift Go, for their trips but they will not be able to buy tickets from Revenue Officers on board the tram.
“If approached by an officer, they must be able to show they have already paid for their journey or face the £100 Penalty Fare.”
All stops on the West Midlands Metro network have at least one large ticket machine with the majority also now having a second smaller machine. Tickets can also be purchased using the MyMetro app.
