Transport for Greater Manchester are looking for the view of local residents on the future of Bury Interchange – which should include a new transport hub for the town. They are also looking at the creation of improved public spaces and proposed residential apartments.
It is planned that the current 1980s facility will become a modern, accessible and welcoming transport hub. It will be delivered in two phases – the first of which is due to start this autumn with work on a new footbridge and improvements to the tram platforms are due to commence.
TfGM along with Bury Council and Greater Manchester Combined Authority are working to redevelop the interchange. They are encouraging people to help shape the plans for the new interchange which will make it easier to get around using the Bee Network.
Under the proposals – which will go through another consultation later in the year before final approvals – the existing site would be redeveloped with plans including:
- A new interchange building
- A reconfigured bus station to improve bus operations and passenger facilities
- Upgraded Metrolink platforms with improved access
- Improved public spaces, including better walking, wheeling and cycling routes
New residential apartments could also be built between the redeveloped interchange and Casewells, the new flexi hall which is currently under construction at Bury Market.
