“Meet the Trams” continues with a look at the trams which operate on the Great Orme Tramway in 2026 and this time its no. 5.
5 is the second of the four passenger trams which have run up the Great Orme for almost 125 years. Its used on the lower section between Victoria Station and Half Way and would have entered service when that part of the route opened on 31st July 1902.
Whereas 4 had been involved in a fatal accident, there has been no such incident involving 5 over the past 124 years.
As with all the trams it does now carry a name. 5 is named St Silio who was a Welsh bishop, prince and scholar who died in 640.
