Classical music on a tram returns

Anyone travelling on board the West Midlands Metro over the forthcoming August Bank Holiday weekend may be in for a bit of a surprise as the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra’s Music Director, Kazuki Yamada, will be on board performing a piano soundtrack!

This is the second time that Kazuki, who is one of the most sought-after conductors on the international stage, will have performed on-board a tram on the Metro having also played in 2024.

He will be on the tram as it departs from Brindleyplace on Saturday 29th August at 1129. Its all part of CBSO in the City, a weekend of free musical moments across Birmingham’s trams, shopping centres, stations and public spaces which runs between Thursday 27th and Monday 31st August.

Michael Reading-Skilton, Metro’s Head of Commercial, said: “Our partnership with the CBSO has been a real success, giving customers and performers easier access to world‑class music across the region.”

“We’re delighted to welcome Kazuki back on board, and we’re sure his performance will make for a memorable journey for anyone travelling with us.”
