555 024 has become the next of the new Stadler trains to enter service on the Tyne and Wear Metro. This is the 43rd of the trains to have carried passengers on at least one occasion – leaving just three more to go!
555 024 had been delivered to the Tyne and Wear Metro on 15th November 2025. It arrived as part of a delivery of three with 555 025 and 555 030 – both of which have already entered service on 18th July 2026 and 18th March 2026 respectively. For 555 024 its first use was 16th August 2026.
The remaining units yet to enter service are 555 022 (arrived 20th February 2026), 555 023 (arrived 7th February 2026) and 555 046 (arrived 21st February 2026).
With more of the units being available, the use of the remaining Metrocars in passenger service has been decreasing with it now being over three weeks since the last pair were used. But they do remain available if needed.
