In Pictures: Supertram engineering works update

The renewal works around Park Square delta junction in Sheffield are now into their second week (with two more to come) with good progress having been made. This is a major project which will see a lot of the track through this vital junction (all journeys on a normal timetable have to use it) replaced with the aim of improving reliability of the network for many years to come. Stuart Cooke provides the latest pictorial update.

Rails and sleepers are being replaced on both tracks leading from the city centre to the junction as seen here. Checks are made to ensure the tracks remain to the correct gauge.

Another view of the delta junction showing recent progress. This time we look across towards the Meadowhall line.

And we now look towards the Park Square bridge and onto the city centre with lots of new track and sleepers visible.

Replacement ballast is being stored on the closed tracks around Fitzalan Square.

117 waits for its next use as we look across it towards a replacement bus which seems a long way from home!

Taken from inside what could almost be described as British Trams Online’s Sheffield head office, Cavell Café Bar, we see 120 being used on the Yellow route as 117 waits. (All Photographs by Stuart Cooke, 16th August 2026)
