Picture in Time: Blackpool Dreadnought 59 & Jubilee 761

Another edition of “Picture in Time” as we take another look at a 1979 tour which shows the old and the then new in action.

The tour has now reached Fleetwood and 59 and 761 are sitting on Fleetwood Esplanade, presumably for more photos. The weather has now taken another turn for the worse as we see a member of Blackpool Transport staff now in a bright yellow waterproof and sou’wester. Passengers are now getting back on board 59 with just a couple of passengers up top – we’re ignore the fact that they’ve put an umbrella up!

On the right we can see the 1840 Pharos Lighthouse and on the left is one of the oldest parts of Fleetwood, Queen’s Terrace which was designed by Decimus Burton.

761 had only entered service on 2nd July 1979 so was less than five months into its operating career during this tour. After a period of changing ownership, 761 is now part of the Fylde Transport Trust collection and is stored at Rigby Road Depot.
