The South Yorkshire Supertram network has been split into three parts for the rest of August (work started Saturday 8th August) as major work to renew the delta junction at Park Square has got underway.
Costing £3.5 million the work will see worn track, points, signalling equipment and pedestrian crossings replaced. The delta junction is part of the core area of the system with over 440 trams running over it on a normal operating day and that clearly means service changes will be needed for the month of August:
- BLUE – Malin Bridge to Cathedral. Sheffield Station to Halfway.
- PURPLE – Sheffield Station to Herdings Park
- TRAM-TRAIN – Woodbourn Road to Parkgate.
- YELLOW – Middlewood to Cathedral. Woodbourn Road to Meadowhall.
Replacement buses will operate to connect the temporary termini.

The worksite is created on the first day with barriers being put along the approach to Fitzalan Square from Park Square bridge.
Similarly at the delta junction initial set-up is taking place.
Although trams are terminating at Cathedral, they are also getting as far as Castle Square tramstop which is being used to stable spare trams (from here access to the depot would be via the delta junction, although you would expect there may be some access at some point for maintenance). 112 and 120 are seen here.
The points at Cathedral are used three times an hour during normal service but that is for trams coming from the other direction. The points are seen here being changed manually.
102 has terminated at Cathedral and now pulls forward to reverse. It will use the crossover (basically the reverse of what trams on the Purple and Tram-Train routes do normally) to access the correct track and then return to the platform to go back to Malin Bridge.
