Extra trams to run for rugby at Murrayfield

Saturday 18th July 2026 will see Scotland’s rugby team return to Murrayfield Stadium as they take on Fiji in a match which is part of the Nations Championship, and to help get fans to the match Edinburgh Trams will be running additional services.

Now while we are used to seeing lots of extra trams running from the city centre to get people to Murrayfield, this time it will be a little bit different as the partial closure of the tramway will be ongoing (City of Edinburgh Council have recently suggested that it will be August before Princes Street can even be considered for opening again following the fire at the former Debenhams store). As a result trams will only be able to run between the Airport and West End.

Because of the disruption to both trams and buses, the advice of plan your journey in advance is even more pertinent as it is likely a journey across the city will take longer than usual.

A gateline will be in use at Murrayfield Stadium so Edinburgh Trams remind people they have to have a valid ticket for travelling on the tram.

Becky Love, Marketing & Communications Manager at Edinburgh Trams, said: “The new Nations Championship international rugby tournament is sure to be a rugby highlight here in the Scottish capital, and we know it’ll be an epic showdown between Fiji and Scotland.

“We’ll have staff on tram platforms and managing the gateline to ensure supporters get there as efficiently as possible. If you’re heading to the match, plan your journey in advance and please ensure you have a valid ticket so you can have peace of mind whilst you make your way there.”
