UKTram to deliver another Overhead Line Equipment training course

Earlier this year UKTram and Skill Step Training partnered to deliver a successful Overhead Line Equipment (OLE) training course, and to build on this another course will take place in August 2026. The programme is designed to strengthen skills, safety and technical expertise across the light rail sector.

The course is aimed at both new and experienced professionals who work with or around light rail overhead line equipment. It combines classroom learning with practical, hands-on experience to provide a clear understanding of UK light rail OLE systems and the requirements for working around them in an urban environment.

Philip Terry, UKTram Lead Engineer, said: “Following the positive response to our first OLE course, we’re pleased to be working with Skillstep again to provide another opportunity for colleagues across the sector to develop specialist knowledge and practical skills. Supporting workforce development is an important part of strengthening the sector and we’re looking forward to delivering another successful programme.”

The programme will cover the function and key components of UK light rail OLE systems, health, safety and regulatory requirements, typical OLE maintenance activities and processes, and practical construction and deconstruction tasks using the correct tools and equipment.

UKTram members can enjoy a subsidised rate when booking on the course which will take place at a date to be confirmed in August. More details on the course at https://www.uktram.org/post/uktram-and-skillstep-to-deliver-specialist-overhead-line-equipment-training-following-successful-ina
