It had been almost a month since the last new Stadler train had entered service on the Tyne and Wear Metro but that all changed on Thursday 2nd July 2026 when not one but two more of the units ran with passengers for the very first time.
The first of the two to enter service was 555 044 and that was then followed later on in the day by 555 043.
555 044 was delivered to the Tyne and Wear Metro network on 5th December 2025, arriving with 555 033 (entering service 25th April 2026) and 555 042 (which entered service on 24th May 2026).
And 555 043 was an arrival on 10th October 2025. It too came as a three along with 555 034 (entered service 12th February 2026) and 555 037 (entering service 27th February 2026).
Following the entry into service of these two it means that there are seven yet to enter service: 555 022–555 026, 555 029 and 555 046.
