Winter Saloon 20 returns to service

Thursday 21st May 2026 saw a return to service on the Manx Electric Railway with Winter Saloon 20 being used for the first time since it was withdrawn for overhaul at the end of the 2024 season.

As you would expect of a tram which is almost 130 years old, 20 was in need of some attention and it was the latest car to head through Derby Castle Works for a high-quality and extensive overhaul which meant it missed the entirety of the 2025 season.

The work completed included mechanical and a full body overhaul, and it was finished with a full repaint. It retains the 1960s/1970s Manx Electric Railway livery, although this has been slightly amended from how it was before to be more authentic to the era.

On its first day in service it was paired with trailer 48.

The return to service of 20 is just in time with the very busy TT week on the horizon.
