Supertram launches new Community Programme

South Yorkshire Supertram have launched a new Community Ambassador Volunteer Programme, a corporate social responsibility initiative designed to support the continued improvement of the tram network whilst also strengthening connections with communities across the region.

The programme will be building on the ongoing work of Supertram’s Presentation team, who are already carrying out regular improvements and upkeep across the Supertram network. The new initiative will expand this work by creating volunteers to get involved in selected activities, helping to deliver visible enhancements across tram stops and surrounding areas.

Sean English, Managing Director of Supertram, said: “I’m genuinely proud that we’re creating opportunities like this for people to get involved and make a positive difference in their local communities. It will be incredibly rewarding to see residents take ownership and pride in the places they use every day, and to know Supertram can play a part in supporting that. For me, it’s also about creating opportunities that build confidence, connection and wellbeing through meaningful involvement.”

Activities will include planting, light maintenance, litter picking, painting, and supporting local events. Its hoped these will all contribute to cleaner, greener and more welcoming spaces for customers and communities.

It is also designed to offer wider social value by enabling participants to learn new skills, take pride in their local environment, and connect with others. Supertram recognises the positive role that community involvement and purposeful activity can play in supporting wellbeing and mental health.

The Community Ambassador Programme will provide participants with free tram travel on the day of volunteering activities.
