The end of March and start of April 2026 saw UKTram support the delivery of the first Light Rail and Tramway Overhead Line Equipment (OLE) training course in Crewe. The three day course gave hands-on training combined with theoretical learning, providing attendees with a structured understanding of UK light rail OLE systems and safe working practices.
The course covered key aspects of OLE systems, including health and safety requirements, core components and terminology, maintenance processes and construction and adjustment techniques.
Amongst those attending were representatives from Beamish Museum, Blackpool Transport, Transport for Greater Manchester, and London Trams.
Phill Terry, UKTram Lead Engineer, commented: “It’s encouraging to see members investing in this type of training and building capability within their teams. The practical element was particularly valuable, giving delegates the opportunity to apply learning in a way that reflects real working environments. Feedback from those attending has been positive, and it’s clear there is value in continuing to develop this type of offering for the sector.”
Skillset Group ran the training with UKTram supporting the development and delivery of the course in an advisory capacity to ensure the content reflected the specific requirements of light rail systems.
