Colin Kerr, former Head of Safety and Projects at Edinburgh Trams and now Technical Engineer and non-executive Director at the Light Rail Safety and Standards Boad, has been appointed Chair of a new body responsible for agreeing on sector-wide standards.
The new committee is set to play a key role in helping the UK become a world-leader in tramway design and operation.
The Light Rail Standards Committee will be drawing on expertise from across the sector to review existing standards documentation. They will cover everything from infrastructure design to employee wellbeing policy, as well as setting priorities for future guidance (considered to be particularly important with the emergence of new technologies such as AI).
Colin said: “I’m looking forward to working collaboratively with fellow committee members, industry partners, and stakeholders to strengthen standards, encourage good practices, and support sustainable and forward-thinking solutions to the challenges faced by the sector. Together, we will continue to uphold the highest levels of technical integrity and public responsibility, and I’m eager to contribute my experience and leadership to furthering our shared objectives while ensuring that our standards reflect both current industry needs and future advancements.”
