KeolisAmey confirmed as new operator of Luas

As had been widely reported, it has now been confirmed that a joint venture between Keolis and Amey has been selected as the new operator of Dublin’s Luas light rail system.

The new operation and maintenance contract will commence on 1st September 2026 and will have a core term of seven years, with the option to extend for up to six years.

Planned improvements as part of the contract include

  • Enhanced services
  • Initial deep clean of all Luas stops
  • Introduction of proven service delivery, operations and maintenance processes across other KeolisAmey networks (including London’s DLR and Manchester Metrolink)
  • Remote monitoring solutions for light rail and infrastructure to detect and prevent failures

Alistair Gordon, CEO of Keolis UK & Ireland, said: “We are excited to begin collaborating with TII and NTA and to serve the people of Dublin. We are pleased TII and NTA have placed their trust in our established joint venture to deliver service excellence across this vital part of the capital’s public transport network. We will bring innovation and best practice from across our existing tram and light rail operations with Amey, as well as experience from our many networks around the world.”

Andy Milner, CEO of Amey, added: “This partnership allows us to bring Amey’s full life-cycle engineering and asset management expertise to one of Europe’s most recognisable tram systems. Alongside our partners at Keolis – who bring decades of global operational experience in light rail – we are focused on strengthening the resilience of the network through smart maintenance, data-led insight and robust operations. We are proud to contribute to the future of the Luas by helping to deliver a system that is cleaner, more reliable and ready to support Dublin’s continued growth.”

The awarding of the contract to KeolisAmey brings an end to 22 years of Transdev operation, who had the contract since the system opened in 2004. It has now been reported that Transdev are taking legal advice over the loss of the contract.
