MPB Structures start work on Black Country Line Phase 2

Another company has signed a contract to work alongside the Midlands Metro Alliance on the construction of phase two of the Black Country line extension. MPB Structures Limited have already commenced work on the extension, building on their previous work which included the delta junction linking the line with the original Birmingham to Wolverhampton line at Wednesbury.

The newly signed contract will involve more than 600m of infrastructure, to include:

  • Movement of more than 30,000 m3 of stone and excavated materials
  • Installation of 1260t of sheet piles and 8700m of bored piles
  • Placement 7000m3 of structural concrete
  • Erection of 622t of structural steelwork

This will include the construction of a 225m multi-span viaduct and a 100m bored pile reinforced concrete slab onto an existing railway embankment.

Sean Boyle, Board Director for MPB Structures Limited, said: “Starting Phase 2 of the Wednesbury to Brierley Hill extension is a proud moment for everyone at MPB. It reinforces our commitment to delivering high-quality, complex infrastructure that connects communities.”

The value of the contract is approximately £37 million.

Phase two of the line will continue from the first terminus at Flood Street in Dudley and go to Merry Hill Waterfront.

There is a fault in this comment. The next phase (phase 2) will not go just to Merry Hill Waterfront but one stop further to Merry Hill shopping Centre. I contacted Midland Metro Alliance about this last week and they very firmly stated that the next phase would of course go to the Shopping centre with some preparations underway for this tram stop.

There is a map on millennium point stop with the stops on
    as follows

I have taken a photo of it
The ticket machine on millennium point is CA250062
I have logged all current ticket machine numbers
as yo do of course .

Great bridge , Horsley field , Dudley Port , Sedgley road , Birmingham new road , Tipton road , Dudley castle , Dudley interchange, Flood st , cinder bank , pedmore road , waterfront, Merry hill .

On the other direction , Bull st ,Albert st , millennium point , curzon station,
    meridian street , Digberth .

Work behind flood street as started , as per usual Sunday I shall be out with camera on the full route tomorrow .

The map clearly shows Horseley Road, not Horsley Field and Curzon Street Station not Curzon Station, Meriden Street not Meridian Street and Digbeth not Digberth.
The map is also upside down inasmuch as it shows trams turning right at Tipton Junction towards Great Bridge when, of course, they turn left.
