Robbie Williams isn’t a bad guest to perform on your birthday is he? The pop legend will be performing at Murrayfield Stadium on Saturday 31st May 2025 – which also just happens to be Edinburgh Trams’ 11th birthday! With large crowds expected to be going to the concert there will be extra trams in operation, and it will also be the first big volume test of the new ToTo payment system.
The Tap On Tap Off payment system is set to be officially introduced from 19th May and means anyone buying an adult ticket will no longer have to use the ticket machines or apps as they just have to use the platform validators at the start and end of the journey with the correct fare being deducted.
Sarah Singh, Head of Service Delivery at Edinburgh Trams, explained more about the new system: “While customers can still buy their tickets in advance using our app or online, we wanted to make people aware of this new way to pay, ahead of what promises to be a very busy day on the network when Robbie comes to town. By tapping their contactless card or device onto the Platform Validators at the beginning and end of their journey, customers can conveniently travel to the stadium without waiting in queues at on-platform Ticket Vending Machines.”
ToTo is only applicable for standard adult fares. Anyone buying other tickets will still need to either use the ticket machines or the app.
Doors open for the concert at 1600 with extra trams being put on both before and after the concert.
