The next set of South Yorkshire Supertram engineering works have been announced with work due to take place at Gleadless Townend over the May Day Bank Holiday weekend which (and the good news is that there isn’t long to wait until its here!) is between Saturday 3rd and Monday 5th May 2025.
During the works both the Blue and Purple routes will be affected:
- BLUE – trams will run Malin Bridge to Sheffield Station only
- PURPLE – will not run at all
Both the Yellow and Tram-Train routes will run as normal (remembering that the Tram-Train service does not currently run after 1700 on Saturdays for Magna tramstop construction works).
Replacement bus services will run throughout the weekend. Service BL1 runs from Fitzalan Square (for city centre interchange) to Halfway, calling at or near to all Supertram stops. As part of a trial, it will also call at Sheffield Interchange for better connection to Sheffield Railway Station and city centre bus services. There will also be a change to usual stop locations at White Lane due to unconnected roadworks.
Any passengers wishing to travel to Herdings/Leighton Road and Herdings Park are being advised to use their Supertram tickets on service buses 47 and 48 which will have ticket acceptance in place.
VolkerRail will be conducting the works on behalf of Supertram with 24 hour a day work due to take place over the weekend to ensure they can be completed in time for normal services to resume from Tuesday 6th May.
There will also be further works to come during the last full week of May (May school half term week) on Langsett Road. This will see no trams between Cathedral and Malin Bridge or Middlewood with more details on this due to be released on Monday 12th May.
