Another “Trams &” features Beamish as it’s a tram and a bus once more.
Taken on 11th December 2024 this photo is taken by the relatively new Bus Garage located alongside the long-standing tram depot at Foulbridge. The bus standing outside the garage is Rotherham 220, a Daimler CVG6 built in 1954 and which remained in service in South Yorkshire until 1971. After seeing further use with illuminated panels for special events it was fully withdrawn in 1985 and entered preservation in 1987. It arrived at Beamish in 2015.
The tram alongside is a lot further away from home than the bus, Oporto 196 needs little introduction having been at Beamish since 1989. Originally acquired for spare parts, with its condition being better than expected it was decided to restore it to service and it has carried passengers since 1992, firstly in a maroon livery but more recently this attractive blue and primrose yellow of South Shields Corporation.
