Edinburgh Trams to run reduced service during Storm Eowyn

Storm Eowyn – the latest named storm to hit the UK – is likely to cause more travel disruption and in preparation, and following advice from the Scottish Government and Police Scotland, Edinburgh Trams have confirmed that they will run a limited service on Friday 24th January 2025.

Police Scotland have issued a do not travel warning advising people to avoid all but essential travel after the Met Office issued a Red weather warning for the area. Edinburgh Trams are urging people to follow this advice where possible but have confirmed they will continue to run a reduced service with a full service being resumed as soon as possible when its safe to do so.

The Red weather warning will be in place between 1000 and 1700 on Friday 24th January with the remainder of the day seeing an Amber weather warning in place.

Sarah Singh, Edinburgh Trams Head of Service Delivery, said: “The safety of all customers and colleagues is of paramount important to us at Edinburgh Trams, and the decision to limit services is not taken lightly – however, we are also highly aware of the role we play in facilitating essential travel for people across the city. We are advising everyone to take advice from Police Scotland and the Scottish Government seriously, and not to travel unless absolutely necessary. Our team are working to ensure that trams can operate safely on a limited service, and will continue to evaluate the situation throughout the evening of Thursday 23 and all day on Friday to ensure we can continue to run services.”
