YouTuber Geoff Marshall enjoys a tram driving lesson at Seaton Tramway

YouTube star and filmmaker, Geoff Marshall, has recently had the chance to drive a tram at the Seaton Tramway and the results of his day behind the controls of no. 19 have now been added to YouTube.

Geoff was joined by instructor Pete Dawes, Marketing Manager Josh Castree and volunteer driver Matt Streeton as he was guided through the essentials of tram driving and maintenance. This included mastering the brake, navigating speed settings with the four position controller and learning the quirks of driving the tram.

During the lesson, Geoff quickly learned the basics of tram control, from manoeuvring the tram’s brake to gradually increasing speed through four notches, each providing an increasing level of acceleration. Instructor Pete explained the art of timing speed adjustments and how, on certain points along the track, its essential to power off to avoid stressing the resistors. He even shared a critical piece of advice: always keep a hand on the brake for complete control.

To round-off the day, Geoff was then given a behind-the-scenes tour of Riverside Depot with driver Matt Streeton showing him many of the trams not in service on the day of the visit.

You don’t have to be a YouTuber to enjoy a tram driving experience either. If you book for 2025 before 31st December 2024 you can get the lessons for 2024 prices as well! Find out more at https://www.tram.co.uk/events/view/drive-a-tram
