Out and About: Edinburgh Trams – 257 promotes Royal Highland Show

Another trip to Edinburgh for this edition of “Out and About” as we take a closer look at an advert for The Royal Highland Show.

In an ever changing world its always nice to have a constant, and in this case that constant is an advert for The Royal Highland Show on a tram in Edinburgh! For 2024 the tram chosen was 257 which received a double sided design for the annual event which takes place a short distance from Ingliston Park and Ride at the Royal Highland Centre. This image shows the yellow side of the ad and is taken from a Lothian bus on route 16 towards Silverknowes with the tram standing at Newhaven.

Then we see the tram pulling out of the Foot of the Walk tramstop at the south end of Constitution Street. Its just crossing the Foot of the Walk junction and is now off to the Airport. The upper floor of the building behind 257 was the offices of the one time Leith Central Station (closed as long ago as 1952 having originally opened in 1903). The train shed behind was demolished around 1989 having been used as a diesel depot 1952-1972. (Both Photographs by Roy Calderwood, 17th May 2024)
